Britain’s big Iftar break Islam myths
British mosques have organized a nationwide initiative to open their doors to people of all faiths to share iftar during the holy month of Ramadan, offering their neighbors a chance to learn about Islam and forge relationships with the Muslim minority.
"It comes when myth-busting is more important than ever," Baroness Warsi, Minister for Faith and Communities, told The Independent on Sunday, July 28.
"Research earlier this year showed that less than a quarter of people thought Muslims were compatible with the British way of life."
Islam Shaped US Character: Obama
US President Barack Obama has hosted a White House iftar to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan, praising American Muslims for their contributions in helping build the country and saying Islam has contributed to the character of America.
"As the Qur’an teaches, whoever does an atom's weight of good will see its results," Obama said in remarks before the iftar and cited by The Hill congressional newspaper.

Interfaith dialogue, a key to ending extremism
The importance of the interfaith dialogue initiated by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to build bridges of understanding between Islam and the West was emphasized by two prominent ambassadors to Saudi Arabia at the annual Iftar party of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) in Riyadh this week.
Turkish Ambassador to the Kingdom Ahmet Muhtar Gun said: “The increasing intolerance and xenophobia on the basis of racial, ethnic, and religious differences continue to be the main concern for us, because they are the diseases of modern times.” He stressed the importance of the two noble initiatives to promote global coexistence: “the alliance of civilizations” and the interfaith dialogue initiated by King Abdullah.
